These little treats are gut-healing, protein-rich, easy to digest, and kid-approved. One batch provides a solid 50 grams of protein, and for anyone navigating pregnancy food aversions, these little guys can be especially handy. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, found in skin, bones, tendons, and connective tissue—but what this recipe actually uses is gelatin, which is what collagen becomes when collagen-rich animal parts are slowly cooked, like in a good bone broth. That transformation creates gelatin: the jiggly, nutrient-rich substance our modern diets are seriously lacking (unless you’re crushing bowls of Jell-O, which we do not recommend). These gummies are one of our favorite ways to bring gelatin back into everyday life. Use our flavor variations, or take the base formula and follow your heart. You’ll find silicone molds in fun shapes online, but in a pinch, any dish lightly coated with coconut oil works just fine.

Method

  1. Pour the juice or frozen fruit into a small saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatin over the top and heat gently over low heat, stirring until the gelatin dissolves.
  2. If using frozen fruit, transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Return the mixture to the saucepan if needed, then whisk in the sweetener and any optional additions over low heat until fully incorporated.
  4. Mold and chill: Lightly coat silicon mold with coconut oil. Pour gummy mixture into mold and refrigerate until firm, about 2-3 hours.
  5. Store: Pop gummies out of the molds or slice into cubes. Store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

TESTER’S NOTE

Liquid tastes very concentrated, but the flavor mellows when the gummies set. 10/10!
